Join our CIT Program tailored to children 15 years old and more!

What’s Included?

Our Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program is tailored for 15-year-olds who are ready to take their first steps toward becoming camp counselors. This specialized program combines hands-on experience with leadership training, helping participants gain valuable skills, confidence, and insights into what it takes to be an exceptional counselor. At the end of the program, CITs receive a certificate that can boost future job and volunteer opportunities.

AGE ELIGIBILITY:  15 years old +

Leadership & Skill-Building Workshops

CITs engage in sessions that cover essential counselor skills, such as conflict resolution, effective communication, group management, and activity planning.

Mentorship with Experienced Counselors

 Each CIT is paired with an experienced counselor who offers guidance, feedback, and insights into leadership and camper engagement.

Hands-On Experience with Campers

Under supervision, CITs assist with younger campers, gaining practical experience in leading activities, resolving minor conflicts, and fostering an inclusive environment.

What a Day at Laurus Looks Like

At Laurus Summer Camp, no two days are ever the same! From exciting activities in the gym to outdoor adventures and creative workshops, our daily schedule is designed to keep campers energized, learning, and having a blast. Whether they're diving into sports, tackling STEM challenges, or getting creative with arts, every moment is filled with fun. Here's a sneak peek at a typical day at camp—get ready for an unforgettable summer!

7:30 AM – 9:00 AM

Early Care

CITs settle in, organize belongings, and enjoy supervised activities, connecting with peers and mentors before the day begins.

9:00 AM – 10:15 AM

Block 1

CITs learn camp roles and values, start shaping their camp philosophy on Mondays, then shadow counselors and reflect throughout the week.

10:15 AM – 10:30 AM

Snack

Time to refuel! CITs will take a short break to enjoy a snack, hydrate, and prepare for the rest of the day's activities.

10:30 AM – 11:45 AM

Specific Training Activities

CITs assist in leading STA activities, gaining leadership skills and mentoring younger campers.

11:45 AM – 12:45 PM

Lunch & Free Play

CITs enjoy lunch and a 30-minute break, helping younger campers during mealtime and leading games for early finishers before recharging with friends.

12:45 PM – 2:00 PM

Block 2

CITs focus on activity planning and child care, including CPR certification and learning key counselor responsibilities through discussions and reflections.

2:00 PM – 3:15 PM

Block 3

Block 3 lets CITs lead activities, shadow counselors, and learn from guest speakers—gaining leadership skills and having fun!

3:15 PM – 3:30 PM

Smoothies and Second Snack

CITs can lead smoothie prep or relax and enjoy one with peers—building teamwork and creativity while snacking.

3:30 PM – 4:00 PM

Packing Up & Regular Pick-Up

As the day ends, CITs pack up, reflect on their day, share highlights, and help younger campers before smooth pick-up with staff assistance.

4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

Extended Care (Optional) Second Snack

CITs can extend their day with Extended Care—relaxing with friends, joining group games, or helping around camp. A perfect time to unwind and connect.

What are the prerequisites for joining?

-CITs must be 15-16 years old  and demonstrate a strong interest in learning leadership and counseling skills. No prior experience is required.

Will CITs have direct supervision?

-The program fee includes all module activities.

Is there a certification awarded upon completion ?

-Absolutely! Each CIT receives a certificate recognizing their completion of the program, which is a great addition to future job or volunteer applications.

What should CITs bring each day to camp?

-CITs should bring a water bottle, lunch, snacks, sunscreen, and any personal items needed for active play. A detailed checklist will be provided upon registration.

Are there additional costs for the CIT Program?

-The program fee covers all workshops, mentorship, and activities.
